Alabama A&M linebacker Medrick Burnett Jr has died just hours after his death was incorrectly announced in a statement put out by the college.

Medrick Burnett Jr.’s death has united Alabama A&M as his teammates honor his memory and reflect on his impact both on and off the field.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said Alabama A&M linebacker Medrick Burnett Jr. has died from injuries received in the Magic City Classic last month. Burnett, 20, was pronounced dead Wednesday at 5:43 p.m., the coroner’s office said.
