New research into the legend of Atlantis strengthens the theory that Plato's mysterious island was really Santorini.

In 1950 the Santorini volcano experienced its last eruption, closing a cycle of volcanic activity that had begun in 1939.

Perhaps the inspiration for Atlantis, Minoan civilization ... The city of Akrotiri on the island of Thera (modern-day Santorini) is one of the best preserved of these Minoan settlements.
