It's Game 6 in the World Chess Championship as both India's D Gukesh and China's Ding Liren will push to take an advantage with the scores being level at 2.5 points each. The previous Game 5 ended up being a draw as reigning world champion Ding had a good chance to pile up the pressure but he missed on his advantage in the endgame.

The 2024 World Chess Championship remained finely poised Sunday after defending champion Ding Liren and teenage challenger Gukesh Dommaraju played out a thrilling 46-move draw. At his age, Gukesh is the youngest player in history to compete in the World Championship and he is looking to surpass Garry Kasparov as the youngest undisputed world chess champion.

Ding Liren appeared emotionally and physically exhausted after winning the Chess World Championship last year. He sees himself as an underdog defending the title at the upcoming tournament.

At one point of game 5 of the FIDE World Championship, Ding Liren seemed to be favourite to force a result, but D Gukesh's defensive nous ensured that it would be honours shared to keep the score tied at 2.5 - 2.5.

Chess’s biggest event starts next week. The reigning champion, Ding Liren, is seen as an underdog compared to an 18-year-old competitor.
