Just one year after handing coach Neal Brown a contract extension, the West Virginia Mountaineers are moving on from him. West Virginia is firing Brown on the heels of a 6-6 campaign, according to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports.

Brown is high on the wishlist at his alma mater, UMass, who parted ways with Don Brown recently, and sources have shared other athletic directors have made calls to do background work on Brown as well in the event he hit the market.

Brown concludes his West Virginia tenure with a 37-35 overall record. With WVU earning a bowl berth this season, Brown’s Mountaineer teams will have competed in four bowl games in his six years, including victories in the Liberty and Duke’s Mayo Bowls. His overall head coaching record stands at 72-51 after 10 seasons at West Virginia and Troy.
