India's foreign ministry said on Friday that bribery allegations against billionaire Gautam Adani is a legal issue between private firms and the U.S. Department of Justice and that New Delhi has not received any request on this case from Washington.

Replying to questions during the weekly MEA briefing, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the government saw the case as a legal matter involving private firms and individuals and the US Department of Justice.

The lower house of India's parliament was suspended temporarily on Friday for a fourth day in a row this week following disruptions as opposition lawmakers sought a discussion on the allegations against Adani Group.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the Indian government was not informed about the issue in advance.

The MEA spokesperson mentioned that the Indian government was not informed in advance about the indictment and is not part of the ’conversation’ at this point.
