Many cities and counties around metro Atlanta have opened warming centers to help residents affected by this week's freezing cold weather and possible snow.

As temperatures drop over the next couple of days, the following warming centers are opening in the city of Atlanta and surrounding areas.

That’s where the city’s emergency warming centers come in. When temperatures dip below 40 degrees, Mayor Andre Dickens’ Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) sets up cots and heaters in some of the city’s recreation centers.

Wind chills are set to dive into the single digits overnight Sunday into Monday and metro Atlanta and north Georgia are under an Extreme Cold Warning, leading many local governments to open warming centers.

As winter brings below-freezing temperatures to Atlanta, housing-insecure residents are at risk of being negatively affected by the extreme chill. But warming centers around the city won’t leave them out in the cold.

With winter weather coming, there is one thing you need to remember: preparation is key. Temperatures are expected to remain at or below freezing for a prolonged period of time, which could wreak havoc on your pipes.
