After scoring 45 points in the season opener against FCS opponent Texas A&M-Commerce, the Aztecs were shut out the following week against Oregon State. The high point of the first half was back-to-back wins against Hawaii and Wyoming, both by scores of 27-24.

The Air Force Falcons finished the 2024 football season on a huge run, as they streaked past the San Diego State Aztecs, 31-20, on Saturday night.

Air Force closed its season in such emphatic fashion that even Troy Calhoun, a coach generally stingy with praise for his own squad, used superlative verbiage.

SDSU (3-8, 2-4 Mountain West) enters the game against Air Force (4-7, 2-4) in the midst of a five-game losing streak. The Aztecs need a victory to match last year’s 4-8 finish and avoid their worst season since a 2-10 finish in 2008.

Either Air Force is going to finish the season on a hot streak or San Diego State is finally going to snap its long losing streak.

The last embers of hope for San Diego State (3-9, 2-5) were extinguished when Aiden Swartz sacked O’Neil on 4th and 18 with 2:24 remaining in an 11-point game. Air Force (5-7, 3-4) started the season 1-7, enduring a seven-game losing streak, before rebounding to win four in a row and close the season.
