President Donald Trump on Thursday stood firm on his tariff policy, hours after threatening to escalate a global trade war with a 200% tariff on champagne and other alcohol products from the European Union.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Thursday threatened a 200% tariff on European wine, Champagne and spirits if the European Union goes forward with a planned tariff on American whiskey. The European tariff, which was unveiled in response to steel and aluminum tariffs by the U.S. administration, was expected to go into effect on April 1.

Earlier today, Trump shared on social media that he would put a 200% tariff on European alcohol, in response to the EU's retaliatory tariffs on American whiskey. Trump has also directly touched upon Canada during his Oval Office meeting with Nato's Secretary-General.
