Thousands of homes are still without power across north-east England and Cumbria following Storm Éowyn. Wind gusts reached up to 96mph (154 km/h) in Northumberland on Friday, with trees being brought down,

The storm brought 100 mile-per-hour winds to the island and also battered Scotland and northern England. Britain’s weather office issued a red warning, its highest level of alert.

Ireland called in help from England and France as repair crews worked to restore power to hundreds of thousands of people after the most disruptive storm for years. Even as the cleanup continued, more wet and windy weather hit the U.

Some train services are still affected by storm damage with 2,800 households still without power.

Thousands of Scots remain without power, days on from the disruption and damage brought by Storm Eowyn. Scottish Power Energy Networks, which provides central and southern Scotland, said 2,964 homes are yet to be reconnected.
