David Prosser, who rose to become speaker of the Wisconsin Assembly before an 18-year tenure on the state Supreme Court that was marked by a heated altercation with another justice, has died.

Former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser died Sunday at 81 years old. Prosser served 18 years on the state's highest court and was previously assembly speaker before that. Gov. Tommy Thompson appointed Prosser to the Supreme Court in 1998.

According to WTMJ, former Justice David T. Prosser, Jr. died over the weekend at the age of 81 after battling cancer in recent months. Throughout his more than 40-year career, Prosser held the important positions of Outagamie County District Attorney and Speaker and Minority Leader in the Wisconsin Assembly.

APPLETON, Wis–Former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser has died. Prosser passed away over the weekend at the age of 81.
